Deposit & liability
Rental price, deposit and excess are three different things. Only the rental price counts as a travel cost.

Money you get back. It is never counted as a travel cost.

Blocked on your card rather than charged.

The maximum you would pay if the car is damaged. A risk, not a cost — never added to the trip total.

Deposits and security holds you expect to get back. These are not travel costs and are excluded from the trip cost.
